“Long ago a shipwreck girl was washed ashore
Inside a chest she found much finery
Gathering treasures she fashioned fine things to wear
Her days were soon filled with other-worldly friends
Today she's Queen of that far-away paradise”
Justin Smith's collection for Spring Summer 2010 is called Light. The collection premiered on Friday 18th September during London Fashion Week at Somerset House.
Light is a collection of couture and ready to wear personal treasures and beachcombed relics, woven together in incredible confections for island paradise primitives. Subleached blond threads, fabulous string art patterns and salt-crusted wings in storm cloud grey, are ready to take to the sunlit air.
The couture collection was shown as part of Headonism, a British Fashion Council initiative, curated by Stephen Jones. The ready to wear collection appeared as a catwalk show in collaboration with Aminaka Wilmont. A showroom for both collections was exhibited during London Fashion Week, in the East Wing at Somerset House.
2 pieces of knitwear for the Light couture collection were made by knitwear designer Julia Neil who has also designed for Matthew Williamson, John Rocha, Unconditional, Weardowney and Pyrus.
